24-hour strike to affect Rome’s bus and metro services.
Commuters and tourists in Rome face travel disruption on Friday 10 October due to a 24-hour public transport strike, affecting the city’s bus and subway services.
There will in fact be two strikes involving employees of Rome’s public transport company ATAC: a 24-hour walkout called by the SUL trade union, and a four-hour protest, from 08.30 to 12.30, called by the USB Lavoro Privato and Orsa Tpl unions.
The 24-hour strike timetable follows the usual routine and will be effective from 08.30 to 17.00 and from 20.00 until the end of service.
This means that public transport in the capital will be guaranteed on Friday during the busiest commuter periods: in the morning up until 08.30 and in the early evening between 17.00 and 20.00.
Transport strikes in Rome usually affect trams, in addition to buses and subways, however the city’s six tram lines are already out of action, for the next two months, due to major roadworks.
Rome’s night buses will be at risk of not running on the night between Thursday and Friday, however local train services operated by Trenitalia shouldn’t be affected by the walkout.
The strike has been called to demand better conditions for workers.
