Festa della Liberazione is a public holiday in Italy.
Italy will open its state museums and archaeological sites for free on Saturday 25 April for the 2026 edition of Liberation Day, or Festa della Liberazione, the culture ministry said.
A national public holiday in Italy, the day commemorates the end of the Fascist regime and of the Nazi Germany occupation during world war two, as well as the victory of Italy’s Resistance movement of partisans who opposed the regime.
In addition to 25 April, Italian state museums and archaeological sites open for free on two other symbolic dates: 2 June for Festa della Repubblica and 4 November for National Unity and Armed Forces Day.
The three free museum days take place in tandem with the opening of state museums for free on the first Sunday of each month.
The free opening of state-run cultural and heritage sites on 25 April includes the Colosseum, Pompeii, the Uffizi, Pinacoteca di Brera, and Galleria Borghese.
The initiative will take place during the usual opening hours, with access by reservation only where applicable.
