10-day search comes to a tragic end as police find Federica Torzullo’s body buried on land beside her husband’s business.
Italian police on Sunday found the body of a woman who had disappeared from her home in Anguillara Sabazia, a small town about 40 km north of Rome, on 8 January.
The body of Federica Torzullo, a 41-year-old postal worker, was found buried two metres underground during excavations on land adjacent to her husband’s earthmoving company.
The woman’s husband, 45-year-old Claudio Carlomagno, reported his wife missing on the evening of 9 January after her concerned colleagues phoned to say that she hadn’t shown up for work.
Carlomagno was immediately considered a suspect in the disappearance of his wife and has been under investigation for her murder since last week.
Police found traces of blood in the house, in his car and on his work clothes, and his statements to investigators were reportedly full of inconsistencies.
Carlomagno was arrested on Sunday, on charges of aggravated murder and concealing a dead body, and is currently being held in Civitavecchia prison.

The couple have a 10-year-old son, with whom they had dinner on 8 January, the night before Torzullo was reported missing.
The child stayed the night at his maternal grandparents’ home nearby. The next morning Carlomagno allegedly texted his mother-in-law, pretending to be his wife, giving her instructions on what to prepare for the child’s breakfast.
Carlomagno told investigators that the couple had been experiencing some relationship problems but allegedly failed to disclose that they were in the process of obtaining a legal separation.
As police continue the search for the murder weapon, a torchlight procession in memory of Torzullo is planned in Anguillara on Monday evening.
