Train passengers in Italy face disruption due to a 24-hour strike.
Italy faces disruption to rail services across the country this weekend due to a 24-hour national strike by train staff and railway maintenance workers.
The walkout is timetabled from 21.00 on Friday 9 January until 21.00 the next evening, Saturday 10 January.
The strike could affect services operated by Trenitalia, Italo and Trenord, and “may lead to changes to services, including before and after its conclusion”, according to a statement on the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana website.
Italo has published a list of guaranteed rail journeys, as has Trenord, which said that buses would be provided in the event that its train services to Milan airports are cancelled.
Those planning to travel by rail in Italy on Friday night or on Saturday are advised to check updated timetables on the official websites and apps of the train companies before travelling.
Rome’s Fiumicino airport has warned travellers that rail connections to and from the airport could experience delays or cancellations as a result of the strike.
The walkout by railway staff follows disruption at airports around Italy on Friday due to several strikes affecting the air travel sector.
