Worker died after partial collapse of Rome’s Torre dei Conti three weeks ago.
Work got under way in Rome on Wednesday to secure a mediaeval tower whose partial collapse on 3 November resulted in the death of a construction worker.
The works will involve securing the façade to protect the 13th-century Torre dei Conti, a landmark located near the Colosseum and Roman Forum.
Police have authorised the release of part of the construction site which had been subject to a seizure order following the disaster, amid an investigation for manslaughter, negligent disaster and serious injury.
Octav Stroici, a 66-year-old Romanian man, was trapped under the rubble for more than 11 hours was extracted alive by firefighters but died after arriving in hospital.
Rome’s mayor Roberto Gualtieri declared a day of mourning for Stroici, and ordered the evacuation of a number of residential and commercial buildings in the vicinity of the tower.
