New AS Roma stadium could potentially be host venue for Euro 2032.
Rome could have two football stadiums for the 2032 European Championship, it has emerged, following a meeting between top football and city officials on Thursday.
The prospect of Rome having a second stadium, in addition to the Stadio Olimpico, rests with Serie A football team AS Roma which is set to build a new billion-euro stadium in the Pietralata area of the capital.
Italy and Türkiye will jointly host the major sporting event, scheduled between June and July 2032.
Both nations have proposed 20 stadiums of which 10 will be chosen to stage matches – five per country – to be chosen by European soccer governing body UEFA in October 2026.
Thursday’s meeting in the capital was attended by officials from UEFA, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and AS Roma, along with the city’s mayor Roberto Gualtieri.
The talks had a “positive outcome”, informed sources told news agency ANSA, with the possibility of Rome having two stadiums in the championship reportedly not being ruled out.
Euro 2032 will mark the fourth time that Italy has hosted the championship matches while it This will be the first time for Türkiye.
Italy exclusively hosted Euro 1968 and 1980, while in 2021 the Stadio Olimpico staged three Euro 2020 matches.
