Lazio residents aged 16 to 25 can travel for free by bus and rail until 15 September.
The Lazio region around Rome is offering its residents aged 16 to 25 the chance to travel for free on regional Cotral buses and Trenitalia trains this summer.
The offer is available to Lazio residents registered with the Bella X Noi app, entitling the user to free travel between 1 July and 15 September, for 30 days after signing up.
Designed to encourage young people to explore their region by public transport, the Lazio in tour gratis initiative is funded with €775,000 of regional funds.
“We are making regional public transport free for our young people to promote awareness of the many beauties in the Lazio region but also to generally promote the use of public transport”, Lazio transport councillor Fabrizio Ghera said in a statement.
The initiative includes the Rome-Lido and Rome-Civita Castellana-Viterbo train services but excludes the Leonardo Express shuttle train from Rome to Fiumicino airport, the Trenitalia Civitavecchia express service or the capital’s subway network.
This year’s scheme is reduced from previous editions which were open to Lazio residents aged 14 to 29.
