Known for his tireless work ethic and no-nonsense approach,\u00a0the American journalist\u00a0rose to prominence as the Vatican correspondent for the\u00a0National Catholic Reporter<\/em>, a role he held for 17 years.<\/p>\n In 2014 he joined\u00a0Crux<\/em>, an independent news outlet focused on the Catholic Church, which launched that year as a project of the Boston Globe<\/em>. The newspaper transferred ownership of\u00a0Crux<\/em>\u00a0to its staff in 2016, with Allen serving as its editor until his death.<\/p>\n Allen also served as a senior Vatican analyst for CNN, featuring in broadcast coverage of the papal conclaves of 2005 and 2013, as well as acting as a CBS News contributor during the election of Pope Leo XIV.<\/p>\n A widely-respected “Vaticanista”, Allen’s legendary ability to navigate the Roman Curia allowed him to break stories, offer incisive yet accessible insights, and predict shifts in policy and personnel with unrivalled accuracy.<\/p>\n Beyond his daily reporting, Allen authored 11 books that serve as a definitive history of the modern Church.
