State museums and archaeological sites across Italy will open their doors for free on Tuesday 4\u00a0November to mark\u00a0National Unity and Armed Forces Day, the culture ministry confirmed on Friday.<\/p>\n
This extra free museum day will be preceded on Sunday 2 November\u00a0by the\u00a0free opening of state-run museums and archaeological sites for\u00a0Italy’s monthly\u00a0Domenica al Museo\u00a0initiative.<\/p>\n
The special opening on\u00a04 November was introduced\u00a0by\u00a0the culture ministry two years ago, along with two other symbolic dates:\u00a0Festa della Liberazione\u00a0on 25 April and\u00a0Festa della Repubblica\u00a0on 2 June.<\/p>\n
The list of state-run sites participating in the initiative for the Giorno dell’Unit\u00e0 nazionale e Giornata delle Forze Armate on 4 November\u00a0can be consulted on the\u00a0culture ministry website.<\/p>\n
The date of the national day, which is not a\u00a0public holiday, coincides with the anniversary of the armistice of Villa Giusti in 1918, which ended world war one on the Italian front.<\/p>\n
The nationwide Domenica al Museo scheme, launched in 2014, is held every first Sunday of the month in tandem with the monthly free entry for\u00a0Rome’s municipal museums.<\/p>\n
This Sunday almost all museums and archaeological sites in the capital will be open for free, however some Rome landmarks\u00a0such as\u00a0Galleria Borghese\u00a0require booking in advance.<\/p>\n
The initiative on 2 November allows free access to all city-run museums in Rome including the Capitoline Museums, the Forma Urbis Museum and\u00a0the archaeological site\u00a0in Largo di Torre Argentina.<\/p>\n
