{"id":13449,"date":"2025-06-27T15:09:03","date_gmt":"2025-06-27T13:09:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/polinex.cluster021.hosting.ovh.net\/index.php\/2025\/06\/27\/rome-lights-up-the-sky-with-fireworks-for-city-holiday\/"},"modified":"2025-06-27T15:09:03","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T13:09:03","slug":"rome-lights-up-the-sky-with-fireworks-for-city-holiday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/polinex.cluster021.hosting.ovh.net\/index.php\/2025\/06\/27\/rome-lights-up-the-sky-with-fireworks-for-city-holiday\/","title":{"rendered":"Rome lights up the sky with fireworks for city holiday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Rome\u00a0celebrates Santi Pietro e Paolo on 29 June<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n<p>Rome will light up the sky with a spectacular fireworks display on the night of Sunday 29 June to mark a holiday in honour of the city&#8217;s patron saints Peter and Paul.<\/p>\n<p>The spectacle, known as the Girandola, will take place over Castel Sant&#8217;Angelo at 21.30 on Sunday,\u00a0a public holiday in the Italian capital.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-minute fireworks display re-enacts a tradition that dates back to the 15th century.<\/p>\n<p>The idea of Michelangelo, perfected by\u00a0Bernini, the\u00a0fireworks display\u00a0was introduced in 1481 and has inspired writers and artists through the centuries including\u00a0Dickens, Belli and Piranesi.<\/p>\n<p>Rome celebrates its patron saints Peter and Paul at Castel Sant\u2019Angelo tonight with a spectacular fireworks display. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/29giugno?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" title=\"#29giugno\">#29giugno<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SKwTMAuHRl\" title=\"pic.twitter.com\/SKwTMAuHRl\">pic.twitter.com\/SKwTMAuHRl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Wanted in Rome (@wantedinrome) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wantedinrome\/status\/1807145553249153158?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" title=\"June 29, 2024\">June 29, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The best places to view the spectacle include Lungotevere Tor di Nona and the bridges of\u00a0Vittorio Emanuele II, Sant\u2019Angelo and Umberto I.<\/p>\n<p>The popular event\u00a0will result in some traffic restrictions and city bus detours in the area, from 19.30, to allow for the crowds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SS Pietro e Paolo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The holiday marks the liturgical feast in honour of the martyrdom in Rome of the apostles, saints Peter\u00a0and Paul, in a celebration that dates back to ancient Christian times.<\/p>\n<p>The date commemorates the death of the two saints\u00a0who are said to be buried at the two basilicas bearing their names: San Pietro and San Paolo fuori le mura.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the fireworks, the annual\u00a0holiday is also marked with religious procession\u00a0 at the Basilica of St Paul\u2019s Outside the Walls and an<em>\u00a0infiorata<\/em> floral display in front of St Peter&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>The annual celebration to mark the Festa di SS.
