Skytrax recognises quality services and standards at Ciampino.
Rome’s Ciampino airport has been certified for the first time as a 4-Star regional airport by Skytrax, the principal rating and assessment company in the international airport sector.
The recognition from the London-based organisation follows a detailed audit into the services and operational standards at the airport, known officially as Aeroporto di Roma-Ciampino G.B. Pastine.
The rating reflects “a good standard across key passenger-facing areas including terminal comfort, cleanliness, wayfinding, staff service, security and immigration processing, and the overall consistency of the end-to-end passenger journey”, Skytrax said in a statement.
The rating, in the category of airports that handle between 2-5 million passengers annually, highlighted the self-service check-in and bag drop as well as “efficient security screening, and easy boarding arrangements that support a fairly quick customer flow.”
Skytrax also cited “a good quantity” of seat power and charging facilities, “nice workspace zones”, “well structured” retail and food and beverage provision, and “affordable connections into central Rome”.
Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma (AdR) which manages Ciampino as well as Rome’s much larger Fiumicino airport, stated that the recognition represents “a further important milestone in the continuous improvement journey we are pursuing across the entire Roman airport system”.
Troncone said Ciampino plays “a strategic role for Rome and for Italy”, adding that the Skytrax rating “enhances the airport’s specific role within a dual-use operating environment”.
Last year Fiumicino was included among the Skytrax World’s Top 10 Airports ranking for the first time, as well as retaining its coveted 5-Star Skytrax rating for the third consecutive year, placing it among an elite group of only 12 airports worldwide to achieve this highest standard.
